ILM for Basic Modeling and Identification
This interactive tool is focused on teaching and learning basic concepts about modelling and identification. Modelling and identification play fundamental roles in the field of automatic control, since it is not possible to perform a control system design without having a model describing the dynamics of the process to be controlled. The tool presented here is dedicated to describe the most important aspects of basic modelling centralized on first and second order systems with dead-time and zero effects. The tool is divided into two main parts, Modelling Concepts and Identification. The Modelling Concepts screen is focused on understanding the main properties of the most common process transfer functions, and the second screen of the tool is dedicated to Identification purposes. This part consists in, given the output response of a real process to a specific input signal, identifying the parameters of a process transfer function so that it captures the system dynamics.
